Laser Pigmentation Removal

Laser pigmentation removal is a non-invasive and non-surgical treatments for all kinds of skin pigmentation such as melasma and freckles. We need several different technology to work together because the pigmentation has different size and are in different depth.

For different pigmentation we suggest different lasers. Lasers are effective for the pigmentation which is in the deep dermis, such as Nevus of Ota and Melasma. IPL is safe and effective for the pigmentation in the epidermis, such as sun spots, age spots and freckles.

Laser pigmentation removal

Laser Pigmentation Removal(Q-switch laser, pico laser or fractional CO2 laser) works to safely and effectively reduce the appearance of freckles, pigmentation, and post-trauma pigmentation including acne scars and age spots.

The laser targets only the pigmented lesion in the skin which absorbs the light, without damaging the surrounding skin. The laser heats up and shatters the pigment. The pigment is then drawn to the surface without harming the surrounding tissue.

IPL pigmentation removal

IPL is stand for intense pulsed light, IPL Pigmentation removal treatments work by transmitting heat from the IPL light through to the pigmented skin areas. The IPL technology is attracted to dark pigmentation, effectively drawing the discolouration to the surface of the skin, allowing the dermis to begin the healing process of correcting the blemishes.

To remove unwanted pigmentation, we have 2 types of technology:

Laser pigmentation removal machine: Q-switch ND YAG Laser machine and picosecond laser machines use 1064nm or 532nm wavelength to work on the pigmentation, it is suitable for the pigments in both epidermis and dermis.

IPL pigmentation removal machine: IPL is the intense pulsed light, it uses a special filter (560-1200nm wavelength) for pigmentation removal. IPL is safe and effective for the pigmentation in the epidermis such as age spots and freckles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Laser machine is proven to be safe and effective for all types of pigmentation removal. Normally, Q–switched laser machine, pico laser machine, and IPL machine are combined to treat the different pigmentation lesions. The wavelengths of light produced by laser technology are designed to be absorbed by these pigmented areas causing the spots to gradually disappear. The treatment is quick and not usually painful however, any discomfort experienced can be eased with an ice pack.

Different from other laser therapies, PicoSure laser treatments do not damage the surrounding skin. The laser energy is delivered in one trillionth of a second. The short burst of energy doesn’t heat the skin like traditional laser treatments. The excessive melanin deposits in the skin are shattered into tiny pieces. Your body can then naturally remove the shattered pigment from your skin, leaving you with a clearer and even-toned complexion. A laser treatment session usually lasts around 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated and the type of pigmentation.

Laser treatment is a popular and effective method for pigmentation removal. The laser treatments use targeted beams of light applied directly to the skin. Laser therapy can be used to treat hyperpigmentation, reducing the intensity of dark spots, with different types of lasers available to treat different forms of the condition on a variety of skin tones. But is the laser pigmentation removal permanent?

The answer is yes.

For most people, multiple sessions of laser therapies are required to achieve the optimal result. Most patients describe the sensation of their session as similar to a rubber band snap: mildly uncomfortable but not painful. However, hyperpigmentation treatment does not prevent future discoloration. So, if you continue to damage your skin with sun exposure, acne, or other environmental factors, you may require future treatments.

After you have finished your laser treatment, most person would like to know how long it take for the pigmentation to fade away. Let’s look at some different scenarios to provide the best possible answer to that question as it applies to different skin conditions.

IPL is short for Intense Pulsed Light, also known as photorejuvenation. The procedure for using IPL is commonly called a photo facial. Treatments are performed at your dermatologist’s office by a highly trained professional, usually a licensed aesthetician or a dermatologist. IPL can be a fantastic therapy for erasing mild sun damage, and freckles, and getting rid of – or greatly reducing – irregular pigmentation and light brown spots on the face, neck, and chest.

It is normal to experience what can be described as mild pinching, stinging, or snapping with laser treatment of more superficial problems such as pigmentation, veins, redness, or unwanted hair.  Most people say the pulsing of the laser is similar to how it would feel if you had a rubber band around your wrist and snapped it against your skin. The sensation is momentary and the entire process takes about 15-60 minutes, depending on the specific laser treatment. The sensation of each procedure will also depend on the specific treatment and the treatment area.

Pico Laser has gained popularity as it is known for being less painful compared to older laser treatments. The ultra-short pulses of the Pico Laser create less heat, minimizing damage to surrounding tissues and resulting in reduced discomfort during the procedure.

While pain tolerance can vary among individuals, most patients report experiencing only mild to moderate discomfort during Pico Laser treatments.

When you start a laser pigmentation removal treatment, the response to LASER treatment is very variable and it is difficult to predict the exact results for each patient. You may expect to have some discomfort for the first few hours as well as redness and swelling for a few days. Some Lasers result in bruising. Uncommonly an adverse reaction such as a blister or a scab can occur. There may be a temporary loss/gain of pigment in the treated area which may last for several months or, rarely, be permanent.

Your Laser treatment may have to be delayed if you experience increased pigmentation in the area. LASER treatment may trigger a cold sore in patients who have a history of cold sores previously and the herpes virus can infect the laser treatment site. If the skin is broken following treatment, there is a small risk of secondary bacterial infection which would present as a spreading redness and pain around the treatment site.

Scarring following any LASER treatment is very uncommon (unless undergoing focal ablative laser treatment, for which scarring is more common). If scarring does occur, it is most commonly a slight depression in the skin or a textural change. A thickened, lumpy red itchy/painful scar can develop but is unusual. A lack of adverse reactions or scarring after a test or treatment does not exclude this risk from any subsequent treatment.
